Gumroad is a platform designed for creators to sell digital products, courses, memberships, and more. Their fee structure is simple with no monthly fees - you only pay when you make a sale.
Direct Sales Fees
For sales made through your profile or direct links to customers:
- Platform Fee: 10% + $0.50 per transaction
- Credit Card Processing: 2.9% + $0.30 (not included in platform fee)
- Total Effective Rate: ~12.9% + $0.80 per sale
Gumroad Discover Sales
For sales where new customers find you through Gumroad's marketplace:
- Flat Fee: 30% per transaction
- Includes: All payment processing fees
- Benefit: New customer acquisition through Gumroad's platform
Merchant of Record (Since Jan 2025)
Gumroad now handles all tax obligations as your Merchant of Record. This means:
- Automatic sales tax collection worldwide
- No need to manage tax settings or applications
- VAT, GST, and international tax compliance handled for you
Affiliate Sales
For affiliate purchases, fees are split between the affiliate and creator proportional to the affiliate's commission. For example, if an affiliate earns 30%, they're responsible for 30% of the fees.
Refund Policy
Gumroad does not refund fees when processing refunds. The original transaction fees are retained even if you issue a refund to your customer.
